TECHNIQUE FOR DREAM RECALLTo give a little more oomph to this order - picture yourself waking up in the morning having remembered a dream. Immediately upon waking in the morning write down a bit about whatever you recall dreaming about. There are a couple of important points to remember (pun?) here. First of all, when you are doing dreamwork - you really need to write down or record things about the dream right away. Ever found yourself waking up in the morning half-remembering a dream? You get up, go grab a cup of coffee...and then you realize that that dream is gone from your memory....perhaps just a vague wisp of...something. You know you had the dream, but it's as though it's just beyond your grasp. Therefore, it's important to immediately "anchor" it into your memory. And this brings up the second important point to remember. Don't go overboard and try and write the whole dream down word for word. After a while you'll end up resenting the amount of work and effort that takes. Very few of us instantly jump out of bed in the morning, wide awake and raring to go! We tend to desparately want to return to that nice, misty, dream state. Write a paper? It'd be so much easier to roll over and go back to sleep. Or to go paddle out to the kitchen and get that cup of coffee. What you need to do is simply anchor the dream into your memory. Then later when you are more fully awake, you can write a more complete version. When you first get up, write a few key words about the dream. Then allow yourself those extra minutes. If you're one of those people who desparately wants those nine extra minutes of that snooze button - you'll still get at least eight of them! One of the world's best inventions and tools for dreamwork is a small, hand-held tape recorder. You can easily grab it, mumble a few words about your dream, and get those precious extra minutes of sleep! No trying to write neatly. No waking a significant other up searching for a piece of paper, pens, turning on lights..... Then when you are more fully awake, write down the dream in as much detail as you can recall. Another good way is to use your computer! Take your notes and use a word processing program. This is an easy way to keep a dream journal. Work with this technique, and in a short time you will be able to recall dreams! Happy Dreaming!
