Shared Dreams with Lucid Dreaming

Now that you know the basics of Lucid Dreaming, what can you do with this skill? Plenty! Within this series, we'll cover several applications for using lucid dreaming.

"Dream Sharing"

Another use for Lucid Dreams is with "shared dreams". Shared dreams are when two or more people have the same dream.

I thought it would be interesting for us to experiment with this technique. In using lucid dreaming for a shared dream, since one is aware while dreaming, it might be possible to consciously interact with each other.

To set up a shared dream, find another person to work with you. You should both be reasonably proficient at lucid dreaming. To learn more about how to learn lucid dreaming, see our previous articles.

Decide in advance the basics for the shared dream such as the location. You might agree to dream about a place you both know or wish to go. You do not have to be too specific. In fact it is best to be as general as possible. Set a night (assuming you both sleep at night) for the dream to happen. You may wish to set a general time frame for the dream to occur, for example somewhere between 2:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m.

Be sure to record your dreams by writing them in a journal. Note in particular if the other person appeared in the dream, and whatever interaction you had with them during the dream.

The next day, compare your dreams. In the beginning, you might find that your dreams are very similar. As you practice this technique you may find that you actually are consciously able to interact with each other!

This is an experiment. There is not much research on using lucid dreaming and shared dreams. I'd love to hear your experiences with this technique!
