CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING
Creative Problem SolvingProblems. We all have them from time to time. Often, to find solutions we just need to think objectively. However, this is extremely difficult when we are stressed out or in the "middle" of turmoil. Dreams can be an effective tool in creative problem solving. Many of you may have heard the story of Elias Howe, who invented the sewing machine. In the dream state, he solved the problem of where to place the hole in the needle. There are many testimonials from athletes who perfected their skill by "practicing" in their dreams. How many times have you come up with an answer or a solution in a dream? Our minds are very creative if we allow them to be. Dreamwork is especially good for utilizing creativity because we are less caught up with our day-to-day distractions. Taking dreamwork one step further and using lucid dreaming is even more effective. Whereas with non-lucid dreamwork the solution might come to you, with lucid dreaming you can actively seek one. For example, let's say you have a problem with a co-worker. There could be many approaches you could take. You could have a dream where you sit and talk to this person and ask why there are difficulties between the two of you. Now, this might be an obvious step to take in "real life", however you might be hesitant for a myriad of reasons. In the dream state you are "safe" to be honest. On the flip side, you might be surprised by the answers the co-worker gives you! Perhaps you were acting in a manner towards them that they did not like. You might not have even been aware of this behavior. Another approach might be to "re-play" a situation between the two of you. You can stop and start the action to more closely look at and understand what really happened. While lucid dreaming you are usually a bit more objective than you are in "real life". To give another example, let's say you are having financial difficulties. You could purposely have a dream in which you show your present circumstances. By utilizing lucid dreaming, you can "brainstorm" for different ways to alleviate the situation. You might find that a small adjustment in your budget might make a big difference. You could find a solution you just couldn't come up with in waking life. Basically, the possibilities are endless! I'd love to hear how you have solved some problems creatively using lucid dreaming.
