The Major Arcana
The Fool
The Fool in a spread tells us that a new cycle or phase of life is about to begin. We need to learn not to fear taking risks. The Fool in a spread indicates that whether or not we are risk takers by nature, we are most certainly going to be faced with events that require us to do so. It is time to abandon our old ways especially if they are outdated and try something new. Do not be afraid of experiences that make you uncomfortable, for they can be the building blocks for our future. This is not to say that when the Fool appears that we should rush in blindly. We still need to examine goals, actions, and even our desires. The Fool is more about the willingness to explore, and usually in a way that is very much different from our past methods. This is not the time for being complacent and set in our ways.
The Magician
The Magician in a spread often indicates that someone will come to our assistance in the manner of a mentor. Now, this doesn't mean that they will do everything for us to make things easy, but rather, help us learn to make our own way. The Magician helps us learn to recognize our own power and potentials and how to use them. He will push us even though we might feel that direction is overwhelming. His role is to teach us to strive to use our own strength and power. He is a guide, rather than someone who shoulders our burdens. When the Magician appears, we can expect that we will become challenged by others or by situations in our lives. The key is to learn to draw on our inner resources, talents, and creativity to battle adversity. In this struggle, we often learn that we possess a great deal of fortitude that we did not realize we had within ourselves.
The High Priestess
Key 2 The High Priestess in a spread can portend the unknown, the forces around us that we just can't fathom. There may be hidden influences at work around you. Depending upon where this card falls, it could mean that things are hidden from you, or you are being obtuse towards yourself - i.e. missing things right in front of your nose. However, in some spots this card can herald spiritual enlightenment - the discovery of what lies behind or beyond. It represents intuition and inner knowing. This card also represents wisdom and knowing when to be silent. Discretion can be the realm of The High Priestess. It is something to strive for. The High Priestess is not wishy-washy. She knows what she wants and has the strength of character to stand firm in her beliefs.
The Empress
Key 3
The Empress in a spread often denotes a love interest or possibly marriage. The Empress reveals
something new in the giving and receiving of love.
The Empress is loving and nurtures. Represents fertility and growth. May indicate the mother, or
a pregnancy. Linked with Venus, the Goddess of Love.
Since this card represents fertility it can mean growth of an idea, a project or even the growth
of a relationship. The Empress represents truth, intelligence and grace. The ideal woman or mother.
The Emperor
Key 4
The Emperor in a spread denotes order and authority, and someone who has
the ability to get things done. Goals by reason and logic. Indicates a
man who has energy, or that one will have an abundance of energy.
Stability is indicated here. Strength, power and protection. It can denote
authority that cannot be easily challenged.

The Hierophant
Key 5
Highest spirituality. Can indicate the need for delving into one's spiritual beliefs. Are we
just giving lip service? This card in a spread can indicate that one is receiving help from
high sources and realms. Still, it is not always advice one should take blindly. It is given from
the highest, but such advice is never given to "fix" things. But rather than one should seek
one's own path with guidance from above.
The Lovers
Key 6 Can indicate love in one's life. However, this is a card that sometimes can indicate the existence of other loves or other people involved. It can represent temptation in a relationship and the need to work at love. Testing of one's moral values.
The Chariot
Key 7 Decisons are facing you. However, this card can indicate that there is neither a "right" nor a "wrong". A particular decision can merely be a different path. In some cases this card can indicate a need to be more open-minded. Beware of being intolerant of those different from you.
Strength
Key 8 Indicates either great strength, or depending upon the position the need to have strength in a situation. Courage is indicated. This card represents the need to face down fears and go forward. Be innovative, and at times, daring. The position of this card can help determine what one's greatests strenghth's are - what one has to use.
The Hermit
Key 0 Can herald the needing of time to ponder one's place in the scheme of things. When this card appears in a spread it often indicates that the person needs to stand back and think things over rather than dashing in haphazardly. Time-out. Soul searching is in order. If one is in the middle of an existing project, this card often portends that one will have their mettle tested as to their ability to stick things out. Put one's head down and get to work. Don't listen to gossip.
The Wheel
Key 10 This card often represents a change in the matters of fortune. Be prepared for a oftentimes wild ride. Can mean good luck coming one's way after adversity. Still this card reminds one not to get too smug about things for it is after all... a wheel of change. What goes around comes around.
Justice
Key 11 Things come to order. If you have been playing footloose with people - remember that the scales of Justice always try to balance themselves. It can portend a favorable outcome in lawsuits.
The Hangman
Key 12 Can indicate self-sacrifice. Letting go of past baggage and restrictions. Letting go of fear that has held one back... or the need to do so. Thoughtfulness and through that thoughtfulness... serenity and calm can be achieved.
Death
Key 13 Death....This is probably the card that scares the most people, for they fear it means "Death". It doesn't. What this card really means is transformation. In nature, when something dies, it makes way for a new version to be reborn. So, in our lives, the Death card means we are about to undergo a transformation. A "death" of the old way...and the rebirth of a new one.
Temperance
Key 14 Patience and understanding. Be wary of following the crowd with shallow beliefs. This card in a spread will indicate either the need for exhibiting patience... or that patience will be rewarded. Can portend success after hard work and diligence.
The Devil
Key 15 Blocked messages. This can mean either one is not hearing something because they refuse or are not willing to hear things... or that someone is being untruthful. When this card shows up in a spread it is an indication that information is missing. We need to be careful that we are not creating our own misery by our own refusal to see things as they really are.
The Tower
Key 16 The abandonment of old ways. This can be very positive and cathargic. A release of old habits that have gained us nothing but pain and grief. Do you need to get rid of old ways? Perhaps learn to let go of those in your life who are detrimental to you? This card can indicate that this is what one must do. Change is in the wind. Can indicate swift and sudden change. While it may be uncomfortable... ultimately it can bring one to a better place.
The Star
Key 17 Faith and hope are represented by this card. It can indicate that one should not give up hope. Perseverence may well be in order. Reward for faith. Better health may be coming. Can indicate the arrival of one in one's life that gives without wanting something in return. All in all, this is a rather positive card. Indicates a strong force on one's side.
The Moon
Key 18 When this card comes up in a spread, it can indicate the need to be wary of what other's promise. For it can portend dishonesty and outright lies and deceit. One needs to be aware of Illusion, especially those illusions that we do to ourselves. In a strong position this card is not nearly as negative and can indicate strong intuition and emotional understanding.
The Sun
Key 20 The Sun card in a spread tends to "brighten" the cards after it. A strong positive - a ray of light. Good fortune and luck. The Sun can indicate reward for past efforts. It can portend harmony in a relationship with warmth and happiness. It can indicate a need to watch developing an overblown ego at times. Balance!
Judgment
Key 21 A new day is arriving! It can be a card of reckoning however. Those who have lived in fairness will rejoice, while those who have cheated and hurt will have their come-upance. For those who are truly deserving, it can indicate a favorable outcome in a legal situation.
The World
Key 21 Hectic-ness. One can feel like one is on a merry-go-round with no way off! Things can come out of the blue. Not particularly negative nor positive... it just is. Keep your eyes open. One can circumvent the negative events by being aware... and can grasp more fully the positive. However, the tendancy can be to get too wrapped up in the parade. Awareness is the key.
